Frequently Asked Questions

Familiarize yourself with the American Akita traits to see if they are the right dog for you.

Akitas are a large breed, powerful, loyal, and loving to their family. They do best when raised from a young age with their forever family.  You must know how to become the alpha of your pack.

They are heavy shedders year-round. But, they "blow" their undercoats twice per year.

Of course, they are extremely loyal to the people they know, which includes kids. But they are wary of strangers. Socialization early in life is a must!

Females are usually 70-100 lbs and Males tend to top out at 100-130 lbs.

If any of our dogs show signs of aggression, they will not be a part of our breeding program.

They are not usually aggressive toward people, but they are highly territorial and protective. American Akitas have strong prey drives, which is a good reason to have a contained yard, and can be aggressive towards other dogs, especially of the same sex.
